One of the most important things you can do when hiring an
attorney is to do your homework. The bottom line is that
no one wants to find himself or herself, in a position to
need an attorney but when you do, you want the best money
can buy. Whether for personal or business, chances are at
some time in your life, you will need the assistance of a
professional attorney, someone who can answer questions
and provide you with legal council on making right
decisions.

Many business deals can be very hard to understand and most
contracts that are written are really not meant for the
layperson to understand. It will be in your best interest
to hire someone to go over these contracts and tell you what
they say in a way that's understandable to you. You also
want him/her to look out for your best interest and make
sure that you are not hurt or taken advantage of.

When you find yourself in need of an attorney for whatever
reason, you may find yourself staring at the yellow pages
wondering what your looking for. Unless you've had some
kind of legal experience the best thing to do before
going to the yellow pages is calling your local bar
association. They will gladly guide you to the specific
attorney that can help you with whatever your problem may
be.

Another excellent resource for locating a good attorney is
with the Martindale Hubbell Law Directory, which provides
a list of attorneys not just by state but also by city. In
addition, you will find a summary of the attorney's
educational background, as well as his or her area of
practicing law. Then, check the internet or your local
phone book for attorney referral services. Some of these
are free although most will charge anywhere from $10 to
$30. However, the price is usually worth it. Finally, you
may know of a friend, family worker, neighbor, or co-worker
that has used an attorney. Keep in mind that even if that
attorney does not focus on the area of law you need, he or
she may be able to make a professional recommendation to
someone who does.

Depending on what you need an attorney for will decide
if you will be charged a fee or not. Some charge for a 30
minuet consultation fee. Many personal injury attorney's
will give you a consultation for free, and will not charge
you for their services unless they win your case for you.
These attorney's make sure they can win your case for you
before they make these promises. In the end, However, make
sure you read the fine print so there will be no surprises
for you in the end.

It is recommended that you interview at least three
attorney's before you choose, even if you like the first
one you meet. Just make sure your comfortable with who
you choose, ask pertinent questions about the cases
they've won and lost expect up front and honest answers.
You want an attorney working for you and will leave you
both feeling like you've come out on top in the end.

We all have to go through some bumps and bruises in our
lives and that's why we need attorney's. Many don't like
them and there are some good bad lawyer jokes out there,
but when you need one, you will not have to stand alone.
